The white comes about when I apply one of the steps. Definitely not the look I’m going for. I think that is coming from step three. You can leave off that step. Step two might be the one you're looking for to do a dirty black wash. I stopped using it last year after it happened twice. I think it was the dirty brown or dull step.

One of my favorite "grime" washes is the crud in the bottom of my brush cleaner. Ir's pre-thinned and like no other color on the planet. Of course, this works best with enamels, but I have had some good results with acrylics too. My favorite dirt is still good old pastels, just grind some off the stick and apply with a cloth or Q-Tip. My method uses up quite a bit of the stuff because I keep applying and wiping it off until it sort of bonds to the surface, no clear coat required.
