I just got thru installing the 35 year DVD on my PC: I like the way it's set up, and I think it will be REALLY handy!

You say you "installed" it on your PC. What are the system requirements? Was it actually an installation, or did you just copy it onto the hard drive?

There is a basic installation where you need to use the disc to access files. The full installation means all the files are loaded on the computer, and you don't need the disc to access files.

OK. That won't work for me. I run Linux on all my machines. Are the magazines directly accessible on the DVD without an install involved? In other words, can you insert the DVD, then open your file browser and simply select an issue and open it? The issues would need to be in a format other than proprietary. Maybe as PDF files.

I don't know the answer to that one. I have a windows 10 system, and there are instructions for Mac users. The files are PDF, I think. Maybe one of our members may be able to answer the Linux question. Here is a link for more info: www.kalmbach.com/faq

If they are PDF, I could just open the file. Have you tried exploring the contents of the DVD, not by using any installed components? Just launch Windows Explorer (I guess it's now called File Explorer) then find one of the magazine issues and right click, then open. If they are PDF files it should open right up.

I didn't try that. I installed the whole contents right on the PC, so I wouldn't need to use the disc every time.
