I think I'll stop providing feedback on eBay. There are two reasons. First, hardly any of the sellers I have bought from in the last year have left feedback on me. Most of the time I pay within 30 minutes of winning an auction or agreeing to "Best Offers". The last 10 purchases I have made have resulted in ZERO feedback left for me.
The second reason is that you either have to leave "perfect" feedback or the seller/buyer gets dinged pretty hard. So eBay has actually made it an "all or nothing" type affair. A guy can no longer leave an honest 4 rating for just the cost of shipping from a seller and then perfect 5s for everything else. So eBay themselves have made the rating feature a totally useless tool.
Have any of you guys noticed the same thing? Do you guys still bother leaving feedback? Let's hear what you're all thinking about this.
Well, I have been just like you in the past. I made absolutely sure to provide feedback as quickly as I could. Then the 2 things I mentioned have happened and I just started thinking about the whole feedback thing. If I were to provide truly appropriate feedback for a seller by assigning an honest 1 to 5 rating, it would be a big problem for the seller.
What I'm meaning by that is if I responded with a 3 or 4 in response to the question about shipping charges, it would be a detriment for the seller. Anything other than a perfect 5 adversely affects the seller. If a seller happened to charge $13 for shipping for a single kit, I'd honestly only be able to rate that a 3 it 4. I'm not happy paying $13 for shipping so if I answered that question honestly it wouldn't be a 5. That 3 or 4 rating would be an immediate problem for the seller. If 3 or 4 guys did the same thing, the seller might actually lose the ability to sell on eBay.
That's why I say that eBay has made the feedback rating system a completely useless tool. The rating is no longer an honest rating of a seller or buyer.
I refuse to allow myself to change my personal values on the actions of others, opinions of others, or what I believe others are thinking. I first must be true to myself and do what I know is right no matter my feelings at the time. I try to keep in mind that emotions are only temporary and living with myself is permanent, well at least for as long as I am alive. So, my friend, I hope you choose to continue to do what you know is right and have a life that keeps you content with who you are.
I leave feedback, but always after I receive the item. It's been a loooong time since anything unacceptable happened on eBay for me. I have 406 feedback at last count on my profile, and I'm just a buyer. Each one is a positive, and I have a 100% rating. If all the sellers would have posted feedback on my profile thru the years, I would have around 430, or so. Very rarely have I ever left a negative feedback, but I have done so, in the past.
