I've been looking around for different ways to inexpensively display big scale models. Keep in mind I'm only going to be building 1/20 scale and larger. The majority of kits I have are 1/18 or 1/16 but I do have several 1/20 kits and just a few 1/12 kits. I also have three 1/4 scale Hemi engine kits and seven it eight 1/6 engines.
The two primary means to display are "curio cabinet" style displays and shelf style displays. I've considered just putting shelves up then buying individual, clear acrylic cases. I might still do that for some builds if I can find cases at a reasonable cost.
So, how about some ideas and suggestions? Does anybody know of any cabinet type displays that would handle big scale builds? What about any acrylic cases at a reasonable cost? Feel free to offer up some other way to display.
I'm just planning at this point. I'll have the first of my 1/6 engines built and ready to display in the near future so it's time to get serious about how to display stuff.

What? Not one person has any suggestions or ideas on how to display big scale builds? Wow!

The word I keyed in on was inexpensive. I don’t really have inexpensive recommendations.
My stuff is in three curio cabinets, and on one shelf. I did get two of the curios on craigslist, so they weren’t too costly.

I don't finish builds, hence, I don't need to display.
my only suggestion is flea markets and believe it or not, the internet, google garage sales around your area. I know facebook (I know you don't do facebook) has a marketplace section where people put things for sale. it has worked for me and there is always cabinets and stuff for sale on there.

I have two glass display cases, like you find in a jewelry store. One is 6 feet long, one is 4 feet long. The 6 footer was $100. The 4 footer was free. I didn't get them at the same time. Stuff is out there. Just have to luck up on it!

OK. Great suggestions. I guess I need to start paying attention to used stuff. I've been searching online for new stuff.

new stuff will cost you an arm and a leg!! if you look long enough, you will really find some deals. try Goodwill, thrift shops, places like that.

Dang! Just what the doctor ordered! Looks like I'd best start checking craigslist and Goodwill.

I think I paid $100 for these two together. It was a Craigslist ad. People who are prying with things usually just want it out of the way.

Well, crap. I did a little browsing on Craig's List for cabinets. I found just exactly what I'd like to have. Priced at $125 and about an hour and a half away. Then it hit me. I don't have any way to haul it. I keep forgetting I sold my danged truck. So I'll either have to find somebody to haul it for me or look for other options.

I found mine in my town. Maybe limit the search to closer to home so someone will give you a hand?

That's where I run into problems. You have to remember I live in Podunk, IL. My county and each of the surrounding counties all have around 20,000 in them and each county has one large town of under 10,000. We don't even have a CraigsList for our counties, let alone our towns. We have "Southern Illinois" which is from I-70 to Cairo, which is the southern tip of the state. Several counties and a whole lot of miles involved.
