My new project is converting the Fast & Furious Dom's '71 GTX into a '71 Roadrunner. I plan on a 440 powered, 3-speed automatic shifting, bench seat car painted with Testors Green Go aka Sassy Grass Green with a black interior. I plan on using a bench seat from my parts box, column mounted automatic shifter, and the kit wheels and wide tires from Dom's GTX. Let's see what I can do with this... More Plymouth to come...

Thanks Joe! I have never done this before. I'm changing the seat pattern on a Jo-Han bench seat from a long departed '68 Plymouth Fury Patrol Car. The Fury seat has no pattern to it at all and cutting up the bucket seats to get the GTX pattern only took a few minutes. So now I have to get the seat patterns down to the size of the Fury seat. I saved the head rests and will cut them down for the Fury seat. I drew a line on the center of the seat back so I can slice it into two seat backs for a 2-door. More Plymouth to come...

Thanks topside and Joe! After allowing a hobby knife with a new blade roll out of my fingers and into my leg missing anything important, safety has become paramount at the bench. I had a 1/4 inch deep gash and I bled profusely and my wife panicked and called an ambulance for me. I sat on the toilet and applied pressure to the wound and it stopped bleeding. When the EMT walked in and saw the bleeding had stopped from applied pressure, he said I was good and he left without charging me anything. My training in first aid response helped me greatly and my training in accident investigation told me what I had done wrong. It took a while to correct my bad positioning and I had learned a great deal from that mishap. Using my Dremel, I hollowed out the seating surfaces to the new inserts. I added the new seating surfaces and filled the edges with Bondo Glazing & Spot Putty. I'll sand this when the putty has set and dried. More Plymouth to come...

They usually hit knife end first, don't they...

I fitted a piece of sheet styrene to the interior, but more sanding will be required. The plastic interior tub is much thicker than the sheet styrene I'm using and the seat will need to be raised slightly so it doesn't rock back and forth. My patch will need to be blended into the tub further. More Plymouth to come...

I hope so! Much work left to be done on bench seat! I have been looking at the engine in this kit and it has a hole in the oil filter. I covered the hole with a piece of rounded styrene. The hole might not be seen once the model is assembled, but I know that the hole is there and covered. I have also been sanding the trunk lid to remove the mounts for the rear spoiler that I am not going to use. More Plymouth to come...

looking good. great start Mike. thanks for the tip on the oil filter. i have a few of the older versions (satellite and GTX) dont know if this is a fresh mold or from one of those. i hear this has got some sweet parts in it. that seat adventure is turning out pretty good. way to think outside the box. and truth be told, when i read the X-acto fiasco, i thought your McNally stories were getting a little more graphic. well good thing he didn't charge you anything. that can get expensive.... and stop working in your underwear!! put some pants on for crying out loud!! hehe....

Thanks Al! I was wearing pants! The X-acto blade went through a brand new pair of jeans. I never felt a thing and when I got to the bathroom, I saw my bloodsoaked pant leg!

holy crap!! i was joking about the underwear thing (obviously) but never thought it would go thru jeans. yep, those blades are so sharp, they make a real clean cut. i don't think i have a finger left that has not been cut and i have stabbed myself in the chest with one. remember kids, ALWAYS cut away from yourself, but i don't think i have ever cut a leg. keep an eye on it.
