Mack DM 600 steel hood dump truck (FINISHED)

Yea it’s another Super Bee Trucking dump truck. This one is going to be a Mack DM 600 with a steel hood instead of the fiberglass hood that comes in the kit. I bought the resin steel hood parts from Gary Wallace and the parts will be a very easy change out. I’m using the Montone dump body again from the Autocar dump truck kit. I’ve started working on the frame with 25 scale inches added to it. As always your comments are welcome and appreciated.

very cool. i am learning a little about big ol trucks. don't really know the difference between the fiberglass and the steel hood besides the obvious ones. why would they do that? seems the fiberglass one would be much better. does this change the year of the truck?

Al I’m not really sure myself but the steel hood was stronger and were mostly used on construction or off road types of trucks that see harsher conditions than a over the road type truck. Both hoods were offered at the same time for many years in the 70’s.

I’ve pretty much finished the frame and wheels now. Here’s a mock up with the steel fenders.

Little more progress on the Mack. Finished the engine and sprayed the cab yellow.

I’ve been working on spraying the black on the fenders but had a little problem with the paint staying on the resin parts. I didn’t get all the mold release cleaned off. I’m good now second time around fixed the problem. Still need to clear coat the fenders. Finished the interior and started working on the dump body subframe.

Very nice so far. That drives me nuts when all those fish eyes appear after cleaning parts!

I was able to remove all the black paint from the fenders using masking tape clean and repainted them. Now I’m having to do the same thing with the hood sections. Just about finished with the dump body now. Thanks for everyone’s comments on my build here I appreciate them.

nice fix. it sucks when you have to do things twice. coming together nicely.

I agree Al it’s a pain one step forward and 2 steps back. I’m having to do the same thing with the hood sections now. In the meantime I’ve finished the dump body and the front grill still working on the details on the fenders.
