Built a bunch of years ago. The decal came apart in water so I painted the rear stripe with white paint. The model has a 426 Hemi engine with a 4-speed transmission.

Love that color. I’m working on an old AMT Daytona now. Yeah I’m trying to polish a turd. That Revell kit is definitely a much better kit.

That Revell kit is definitely a much better kit. i have both kits also, haven't built one, but the Revell kit is hands down the better kit. i hope my decals don't blow up in the water when i go to apply them. my worry is panting the wing to come close to a match for the decal.

At first, the paint was my concern until the decal broke apart. Then I painted both the wing and the lower body with the same color. I have learned of a few things in regards to old decals over the years and one is to coat the old decals with a decal film or clear coat. Which one is better? I don't really know since I have used old decals only twice. Your guess is as good as mine.

Certainly a great looking Daytona! Colors are great. I recently had a problem with decals coming apart, but they didn't do it in the water. They waited until I put them on the model, then started breaking up. I've read that a lot of people use clearcoat on older decals, but I haven't tried it.

Problem with clearcoat is they crack if you have to put them on a curved surface... I had that problem with some decals on military figures that were really old...

I know this is a bit late, but really nice work Mr. Mike! Love the detail; especially the way you did the unndercarraiage and floor boards.
