YEEEEEEEEARS ago, I got the idea to build a diorama. I had two of the same kit, and decided to go this route: The two kits were AMT 1970 Chevrolet Impalas. I went with a 'Before-and-After' theme. I built the green one as an abandoned wreck, and the blue one as a street custom. I weathered the green one, and used the masking tape method for the tattered vinyl roof. I roughed up the front end: "Robbed" a few parts off the 454: Pretty much made a derelict out of it: I even wrecked the back! I made the tarp from paper towel soaked in a mixture of white glue and water: After it dried, it kept the shape. I built the other '70 Impala into a custom lowrider: I used the kit supplied custom body pieces, and added the hood scoop from the parts bin. Some of the interior parts are from other kits, but I can't remember which ones! I built the base as a two-sided display, with a divider in the middle: This side shows the blue Impala in a showcar setting. The other side shows the Impala as a "left-behind" wreck: Keep in mind, this was my first dio. If I did this again, it would look a little better...more realistic. This was a fun project, and I still have it in the hobby room!!Comments and questions welcome. Thanks for looking!!

What a great theme and looks awesome for a first time diorama. I still to have build my first diorama but I’m picking up parts to build a 1967-1968 Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge dealership. I’ve probably enough factory stock cars for the time period and the car transporter delivering new cars.

That sounds like a major project! I'm looking forward to seeing that dealership.
Thanks for the comments, guys!

I always liked dioramas. Love looking at them and yours is excellent. I never tried to make one because they do take up a lot of space.

Nice diorama. Love the wreck one. My future idea is a gm junkyard beside AMC custom speed shop & garage.

Thanks, Steve! I see things i would do differently these days, but this one is holding up very well, to be such an old build.
