Anyone know if 1971 Dodge Demon 340s could be ordered from the factory without the side stripes, black hood treatment, & taillight decal. My friend had the real car, but I cannot remember if his had them as this was 51 years ago. I have a few of the new Mpc 71 Demon kits but hesitate to use the supplied decals as they look way too glossy. I cannot find any info on this online. I suppose you could factory order the real car without these.back then if you wanted.

That’s a good question and I’m not sure?

Yes you can get the stripes deleted. Also the black hood treatment can also be deleted and or the hood scoops. Go here Google Hamtramck historical And go to the library. Got to 1971. Then got to dealership data book for Choose Dart Demon You’ll find all the options you can get or delete. This is a great web site for all Mopars from 1955 to 1979.

I had a '71 Demon with a 318 and it had side stripes and flat black hood. Mine didn't have the hood scoops.

Oh the hood decals are not right on the kit. This is an original 9,000 mile survival car. I’m painting my hood like this.

I thought they looked a little off.

Hood decals should be flat black and not glossy. Plus there is a huge amount of carrier around them. Going to do mine without them as well as the side stripe. Not sure about the rear deck panel stripe, I suppose it could be deleted like the hood & side stripes.

Hpiguy suggested spraying the decals with dullcoat before dipping them in water. I may try that on a spare decal from the kit to see if it works. I always trim my decals as close as I can to remove the carrier film. I have been known to trim them too closely! Ruined a few from time to time.

I think you should be careful with the flat clear over decals because most are lacquer based paint. Factory black was not flat black but Matt black. It was something in between satin flat and flat black. And unfortunately it’s hard to find Matt black paint. Or you can mix it yourself. I personally I’m going with the satin black.
