well, that last statement isn't exactly true. what I heard is these cars got yanked off the line to have the hemis and lightweight body panels installed, then went back in line for final assembly. you notice the piece of paper on the window, that is a checklist for special order cars... so I am told.

well, you are correct, but all 64 and 65 cars that came with hemis were factory race cars, period. One slight correction. While the '65 Hemi motor wasn't offered in any showroom models as an option, any person or any dealership that knew to order one, using either the W01 or R01 sales code could buy one of the Hemi Super Stock cars. There were 101 Plymouths and 101 Dodges built and not all 202 cars went to race teams. The last R01 Plymouth was bought off a showroom floor in House Springs, MO.

The last R01 Plymouth was bought off a showroom floor in House Springs, MO. true, not so much as a correction though. all the 64 and 65 cars were indeed factory race cars that were offered to the public thru the dealershps, just offered to the big name racers first. that gets the Chrysler name out there and winning faster than the weekend warrior guy. these were not like the Daytona's and Superbirds where they made so many for the public then shipped other ones to the racers. these were like the 68 darts and cudas, which were also offered to the public but with the famous disclaimer on the side window.

Yep. I'd say that pretty much describes it. I think I read where there were actually 5 different disclaimers attached on, or placed in, those cars. Everything from the one on the side window to one placed in the glove box.
