So what’s the best way to paint plastic to make it look like wood? I’m going to building a boat and I need it to look like it’s made out of wood.
Okay go!!

I'd visit YouTube. With all the different types of paints out there. My stuff is from the 60's.

Marty I’ve started with painting the surface black and then paint over with a wood color paint leaving brush marks to look like wood grain.

Marty I’ve started with painting the surface black and then paint over with a wood color paint leaving brush marks to look like wood grain. I have never tried it, but this method seemed to be kind of common or popular on websites I found when searching a while back. If I recall what I found correctly, it was flat black for the basecoat, then a half loaded small brush for whatever color brown you decide on. Remember, I haven't even tried practicing it yet, but it sure does seem to be a common practice to do it this way.

I’m going to try some wood grain decals I picked off of eBay. I ended up getting this set for free because I ordered two sets and only got one and that was how I got it!!

I use pastels and weathering powders to help bring out the grain, and to make bed boards look more worn.
