That's cheap! '71 Hemi 'Cuda Convertibles were going for around $5,000,000! Yes, five million dollars!

That's just sad. Sorry, but I don't believe ANY car is worth that kind of money. Kind of like no professional athlete being worth 10 or 20 million dollars a year to play a danged game. Seems like things are really out of whack. The spread between the top 1‰ and the average Joe just keeps getting wider and wider.

Seems like things are really out of whack. The spread between the top 1‰ and the average Joe just keeps getting wider and wider. oh boy, this could go a zillion places. I agree with what your saying, in conventional thinking, but in the big picture, most players are worth what the are getting paid. why, because someone is willing to pay them. sports entertainment is the biggest industry in the world. football alone is a 4 billion dollar business, yes, for playing a game. so, as far as the car goes, supply and demand. that's the ticket. lets break it down to a real deal that happened to me a few times. back when I had hot rods and no wife, I had collected 4 or 5 440 6 packs. took 3 to a swap meet and sold all 3 to a guy for $200 each, no questions asked. hell, I had 600 bucks in my pocket. so, you all know where this is going, we were walking around and I see one of my units I sold being carried by another guy. "hey, where did you get that" he stated down this isle, so we went and we saw my 6 packs sitting on a table for $450 firm. I believed that those were a good price selling them for $300, but someone was willing to drop $450 for them. was I pissed, kind of, but I didn't fault the guy. in fact, he bought me lunch that day. moral, even though we think something is worth this amount, someone is going to 1-up you. me, I will not, WILL NOT drop more than $20 dollars on a kit. I hate to go more than $15. but someone (Marty) sure will. hope this kind of makes sense, and of course, it is my opinion. and I would love to open up that whole sports thing.

Hey. Don't misunderstand me. Capitalism is far better than some other options out there. I firmly believe that I should be able to sell what I want to you as a buyer without "outside" interference. You're 100% correct in that an item is only worth what a seller will turn loose of and what a buyer is willing to pay. What I mean to point out is that the top 1% and the "upper crust" are far outdistancing the middle class, let alone old folks on fixed incomes. Anytime that happens you end up with everyday necessities being priced higher than the middle class can afford comfortably. Then people start making decisions like, "Do I buy groceries this week or get my medicine?" Having athletes that "earn" 10 million a year and upper class families that "earn" $250,000 to a million a year causes that spread to grow rapidly. And as for the athletes being "worth" what they are getting paid, in actual worth - no. They are the reason a middle class family of 4 or 5 can't go to a major sporting event any more. Ole Dad can't afford $20 tickets, $10 hot dogs, and $7.50 sodas on his paycheck. That's what I meant by being out of whack. You've seen those breakdowns of the exorbitant salaries, like a pitcher gets $39,000 for every strike he throws in a season or a football player getting paid $90,000 for every catch he makes in a season. Don't try figuring those dollar amounts out. I just threw them out there. In short, I'm worried that the spread between the "haves" and the "have nots" is growing too large and much too quickly. That breeds a superior/inferior relationship which is way too dangerous to exist in this "free" country. I'm sure you're at least familiar with the condition of serfs and lords that existed in years past in Europe. That's what happens when the spread from top to bottom becomes too great. In the meantime, yep. That 'Cuda is worth whatever some dipstick with more money than sense is willing to fork over. I'll sit by and watch them throw money around.
