I'm still reading the book, "Super Stock". I knew that Royal Pontiac fielded a pair of '66 GTOs but never knew exactly what they did with them. It was pure publicity for Pontiac and Royal. They gave tickets out to the fans at the races and then drew a winning ticket. The winner got to drive one of the GTOs and the other one was driven by a "mystery driver" who was dressed head to toe in a tiger costume. I never knew about the tiger outfit or the fact that a fan drove one car.
I also didn't realize that after 1963, Royal Pontiac didn't campaign a car on a regular basis. They continued to build and prep cars for other drivers and teams, but not for themselves. They did run one of the GTOs on a very limited basis in 1966 though.
Just another tidbit I thought I'd share. Haven't had much reading time but took the opportunity this morning to read a few pages. This book is LOADED with interesting facts, stories, & photos.
