Hi guys.
I was just beginning the foiling process on my current project and thought that some of you might find this technique helpful. I have been using this trick for many years on the majority of the exterior trim on my projects, not just wheel openings, and have found it extremely helpful for keeping edges straight.
First, cut a piece of foil large enough to cover the wheel opening. Burnish it down slightly and then with a straight edge, cut a very thin strip of blue painters tape.
Lay the piece of tape along the edge of the trim where you want your cut to be. Let the edge of the tape be a guide for your blade to ride against as you cut.
It takes a little practice I guess, but it's much easier and much more accurate than trying to free hand your cuts.
You can use this technique with great results for everything from wheel arches and side trim to window & drip rail moldings.

Great tip! Thanks, Steve. I hadn't heard of this one before. I'll have to try it out on the Dart.
