Does anybody have any thought as to what the "Gasser II" is all about with this kit? From what I can see there are only options to build it as a factory stock or some sort of lowrider street custom. Where does the "Gasser" come in to play? What am I missing? It looks like a kit I could use for one of my early 60s Stock/Super Stock builds, but I'm wondering what the gasser option is.

I assume that it is exactly the same kit as the other AMT '62 Catalina kits. It probably contains the same factory stock and custom parts that the others do. No "gasser" stuff. This is a casualty of Round 2's retro packaging. The original Polyglas Gasser kit wasn't even a Catalina. It was a Bonneville. This is the retro box art from that kit. Steve

Yep. Same artwork. I wonder what in the devil they are referring to with "gasser". Maybe a mystery never to be solved.

Ebay sells AMT The Funnier Farmer '63 Tempest AWB. It has gasser parts.

Yeah, I already have 2 Funnier Farmer kits in my stash. I've got lots of other gasser kits as well. I'm not looking for a gasser. I'm just trying to figure out what they had in mind with the "Gasser" term for this particular kit. There is no gasser option or parts/pieces to build a gasser in the kit, either in the original issue or this latest repop. It's either a factory stock build or a low rider type custom build, but no gasser option. It's just strange that they used the "gasser" term.

we all know gassers as straight axle nose up attitude, but they don't have to be. Steve, you need to go here, www.gassermadness.us/the owner of the side dies long ago, I thought it was gone but it lives on. probably the best gasser site out there. I just opened it up now and have not gone thru it, so I hope it is as good as before.

Yeah, already had that site bookmarked. I've crawled through quite a bit of it. Some good stuff on there.
As for the Catalina and "Gasser", there just isn't anything in the kit that even leans towards "gasser". It's either a factory stock build or an old style, long and low, street custom. A guy could go as far as calling it an early 60s Stock class drag car, but I'm not sure if you could even call it a Super Stock. It's really just a Catalina with a 421 SD in it as far as I can tell. I've already got a couple of the 421 SD Catalina kits and there is nothing in either of them that would allow for a gasser build of any kind, just a Stocker.
Not that any of that matters as far as it being a good kit. There were definitely several 421 SD cars racing in the early to mid 60s with nothing more than a change in rear tires and a little added goodness under the hood.

Those cars also burned up the round tracks, back then.
