Do any of you guys have any first hand knowledge of the various 1/6 and/or 1/4 scale engines? I'm especially interested in any of them that are kits to build, but I'm also interested in any that are assembled. I think I'd like to have a few different engines in a larger scale to display.
I had one of the "Visible V-8" kits as a kid. The danged thing ran for about 30 total minutes in 3 - 5 minute increments, then quit and never ran again. Never did figure out what went wrong.
If anybody has some info on the things, give me a shout. Thanks.

I have the 1/6 scale Hemi on the shelf. It is made up of pieces of a metal engine block with plastic intake, carbs, exhaust manifolds, and air cleaner. Best of all, I didn't have to paint anything! I had issues with the plug wires being kinked and I plan on replacing them someday. Maybe someday. It doesn't run, but it does look good on the shelf.

Thanks, Mike. So I wouldn't have to paint. With my current painting woes that would be right up my alley. LOL!
I'll take a closer look at the 1/6 Hemi. If I recall correctly, there is a 426, an SRT-8, a Top Fuel dragster Hemi, a couple of different Chevy motors, a Shelby 427, a Ford 427 Top Fuel motor, and at least 2 or 3 more in 1/6 scale. Seems to me some are kits and some are pre-assembled.
Yep, I believe I'll check them out a little closer.

Get that HEMI out and build it for us, Steve! We'd like to see it come together.

Get that HEMI out and build it for us, Steve! We'd like to see it come together. You know, I'm thinking this 1/4 Hemi might be just the thing to finally get me kick started. I'm still experimenting with different painting techniques and haven't whipped the problem yet. Mike pointed out that no painting is required for these kits so I can just sit down and build. There are quite a few different engines in 1/6 and 1/4 scale made by a few different outfits. I've got a whole slew of them saved on my eBay "Watch List". So far I've gone ahead and bought a Flathead Ford V8 in 1/6 and a Ford 427 SOHC also in 1/6 scale. Both fell into my "frugal" purchasing budget so snapped them up. After I get the first kit and get a good look at the quality I'll make a decision as to future purchases. I do think I want one if the 1/4 scale "Visible V8" kits just because I had one as a kid. And my lovely wife had determined that I've finally completely lost it. Oh, well,,,,,

Well, one more. I made what I thought was a real lowball offer on a 1/6 Hemi 'Cuda 426 motor that has the shaker intake on it. It apparently wasn't as lowball as I thought. The seller took my first offer!
That works for me. There are 4 or 5 different 426 engine kits and then another 3 or 4 - 1/6 scale engines that are completely assembled. I'm really hoping the quality of these things is really high. I'd like to get ahold of every one of the different 426 engines, kit or not. That would be a really different "collection" to display.
I can't seem to find it now, but while I was doing all the searching for these things I ran across a 426 Wedge. That would be a really neat addition.

Hey, Mike. I had to do a little searching to find the post you made about the plug wires on the 1/6 Hemi engine you built. I remembered reading it, but then couldn't remember for sure where it was. Yeah, I'm a bit slow. 😜
Anyway, I'm in the process of getting the 1/6 Hemi 'Cuda Shaker Engine built. It's really a decent kit to build. I'm just not at all impressed by the included plug wires.
I'd be very interested in what you would use as plug wires. I'm assuming some type of small wire, but exactly what kind and what size? If you have something definite in mind, would you share that info? I'd really appreciate anything you might have in mind.
Thanks in advance!

Well, that settles that. I went a little crazy over these 1/4 & 1/6 scale engines after I got the first 1/6 kit that was new and sealed and looked it all over. I'm building it right now.
I kept searching on eBay and saw several other engine kits I thought I'd like to own. I just won an auction for the last of the three 1/4 scale Hawk Hemi kits, the Street Hemi, the Race Hemi, and the Super Stock Hemi. Those three are going to look really sharp displayed side by side.
But I didn't stop there. I also got the Street Hemi, the Chevy Street Rod Small Block, the Hemi 'Cuda Shaker Engine, the Ford Flathead V8, and the Ford SOHC, all in 1/6 scale. Then I added a pre-assembled 1/6 Hemi Top Fuel Dragster engine. I thought the collection of Hemi engines really needed a Top Fuel engine. I guess those were never offered as a kit, just a pre-assembled display piece.
Like I said, I went a little nuts, but I think once I have these all built they will make a heck of a fine collection to display. I just had the one problem in buying all of the kits and I'll contact eBay later today to file the complaint on it. It's now been three business days since I filled out the official request for refund. We'll see how that turns out, I guess.
I'm hoping to have this first engine built in the next couple of days. I'm trying to find a replacement for the "plug wires" that came in the kit.

Start a build thread for these engines. Show us some pics. Let us see how they come together. Sounds like it will be an impressive collection.

Well, crap. Yes, I should be taking photos and posting them up. My bad. I'll try and get some photos taken this evening. My contractor showed up to do some "odd job" work so I'll be tied up all afternoon. A few of the little jobs are going to require either my opinion as he works and/or a second pair of hands to do the job.
Since you brought it up, where should the build photos be posted and where should the completed build be posted? None of our categories really fit these engines.
So where should they be? Marty? Al? Help!

I'm going to guess that my "in progress" photos should be in the "Work in progress" category just like everything else.
Then things get a little gray. The engines don't fit into the "Other Makes" category because most of the kits are MOPARs. They don't belong in "Other Scales" because they are bigger than 1/16 to 1/8 scale.
So should I post them in "Replica Stock"? Somewhere else?

Well, it IS a different scale. I just wasn't sure if that category was restricted to 1/16 - 1/8 like it says it is.
