I just finished separating the parts needed for the engine build for the AMT '57 Corvette Gasser kit. There is something funny about this kit. First, it is specifically billed as a "Gasser", but in a couple of locations in the instructions, it refers to "stock" options.
There is a supercharged engine option and a fuel-injected option. You have choices of chromed or painted rocker arm covers and oil pans. There are two steering wheels with columns. You can opt for either an up convertible top or removable hardtop.
The front clip is erroneously labeled "Hood" and the actual hood isn't shown in the instructions anywhere. Further, there is no mention of having to remove the center section of the hood for the blower hat.
The supercharger drive/belt is indicated for assembly in the blown motor section, but the regular pulleys and belts are never shown or mentioned for assembly on the FI motor even though the part exists on the sprue.
The headers, collectors, and exhaust horns are unpainted/unchromed, but no mention of paint color in the directions. Pretty much every other piece that isn't chrome has a suggested paint color in the instructions.
And the final quirk is really funny. If you have followed the directions and somehow managed to get a so-called stock option build complete, you'll be forced to look elsewhere for wheels and tires, or your stock, street 'Vette is going to ride on BIG slicks mounted on VERY deep-dish mags- at least 10" and maybe wider wheels. There are only 4 wheels and 4 tires in the kit.
I've got to admit that if I was a 10 or 12 year old kid I'd probably be all screwed up.
Oh, one final head scratcher, there are 3 different intake manifolds. Let's see, blown, injected, and Hmmmm.
