So I’m going to try and start the new year off right and do a tutorial on weathering. I’ve picked a model to illustrate a variety of techniques and supplies I use. The model I’ve picked is this ‘53 Ford flipnose pickup - The kit hasn’t been started, so it’s a legitimate build that I’ll be weathering along the way. And since it’s a Ford on a Mopar site, I think I’ll use the Hemi from ‘67 Coronet R/T kit. I don’t have a real plan for the “look” yet, but here are some supplies that I will likely use along the way - Rustall Various sandpaper grits Pastels Washes I bought but have yet to try This will be a bit of a compilation of techniques I’ve used for years, and some experimenting along the way, so...

I was thinking about the bed and might go with real wood so I can use these products from Micro Mark - I’ve had good luck with it before - I might also use techniques involving rubber cement and salt on the body. We’ll see if the build goes in that direction.

I noticed a lot of micro mart stuff. Can you get some or all of that stuff at a craft store?

I noticed a lot of micro mart stuff. Can you get some or all of that stuff at a craft store? I haven’t found a good enough craft store near me for that. Hobby shop, maybe. The Scale Finishes stuff used to be listed at Michael’s online, but they didn’t stick it when I asked in person. Pastels and stuff like that should surely be available. Weathering powders, Rustall, etc., I doubt it.

Have you ever tried using brewed tea or coffee for weathering wood?

I haven’t. I can’t say I do a lot of weathered wood, and don’t drink tea, so have gone with the MicroMark stuff. Guess I could try coffee, but I hate the stuff my wife buys!
