Do any of you guys run a dehumidifier in your hobby room or in your house? We have had this dehumidifier of ours for the 4 years we've been in this house. It has always been placed at the far end of the living room from where I sit. It does an excellent job of removing humidity so I never had a complaint. My wife recently decided she wanted the old pickle crock in the living room. This thing is a ten gallon crock that my family used to make pickles in every year. Of course, she decided she wanted it to sit right where the dehumidifier had been sitting each summer for 4 years.
I decided I'd put the dehumidifier in the hallway, between the bathroom and kitchen. Those are two of the most humid areas in the house, so it made sense to me. Well, the way it is facing, it blows the discharged air pretty much directly at my big chair. I began noticing a couple of things. One, the A/C in this room seemed to be running a little more than it usually did late at night after the outside temp went down. Two, when I sit in my chair and the A/C has kicked off, I feel warmth on my arm and legs. So I went and stood directly in front of the dehumidifier and I couldn't believe just how hot the air coming out of it was.
If any of you have dehumidifiers, does yours discharge hot air? I'm trying to decide if the water that is being removed in our house justifies the hot air being pumped into the house. All our A/Cs remove great amounts of water, so I'm leaning towards thinking the dehumidifier should be shut down and put away.
