Hi guys!
Sorry to be such a stranger for so long.
I guess we'll just say that I've been sidetracked and leave it at that.
I do have some updates and some news about this project that I can pass along to you, so here goes.
Since my last post, I have finished the interior parts for the '68 Coronet R/T Hemi project.
The door panels are finished, and since then, I also reworked the front and rear seats, the tub and the dash board.
Here is what has taken place on each particular part.
The interior tub from the Revell 1968 Dodge Charger kit is being substituted for the original tub.
This will insure that the tub will work seamlessly with the Charger chassis.
But in order to use the Charger tub, minor modifications were required.
The rear package shelf was reshaped to fit the coronet body.
Also, some cleats, or "fastening points" for the other interior parts were also added.
The dashboard from the Charger will also be used.
The lower portion remains pretty much unchanged, but the dash pad required thinning and reshaping of the dash pad to match the Coronet configuration.
The rear seat was probably the most involved of the modifications, second of course to the door panels.
The rear seat had to be widened to fit the new hardtop configuration and still retain the correct upholstery pattern, so material was added to the center and outer edges.
The seat was also separated into two parts, some new piping was added and new seat back "buttons" installed.
The molded in seat belt detail was also removed.
The front seats were also modified by removing the seat belts, cutting down the seat "skirt" and reshaping, adding more pronounced seat back detail and new seat back buttons, and just generally reshaping and rescribing to bring out the details.
seat tracks were added to the bottoms to bring the seat up to correct height and angle.
Arm rests have been shaved from the AMT '68 Roadrunner kit, as well as the Revell Charger.
The decision on which I will use will be decided later.
Now for the news portion of this post.
I have fostered a deal with Ed Fluck Jr. of "Drag City Casting" to replicate this full interior in resin to be offered to the public.
Keep in mind that it has been engineered to work in conjunction with the Revell '68/'69 Charger chassis and the MPC '68 Coronet body.
The set will include the tub, 2 piece rear seat, front bucket seats, 2 piece dash, door panels, arm rests and window cranks.
I will not be involved at all in this process other than providing the masters, so it will be Ed's call as to when these parts will be available, and what the cost will be.
I will receive no personal compensation, but am proud to be involved in this collaboration and hope that these parts might be useful to some of my fellow builders in the future.
