Since Metalizer paints by Model Master have been discontinued, I have been looking into alternatives. I picked up a bottle of Mr Metal Color no. 213 Stainless paint. As best as I can tell, this paint is very similar if not almost identical to the Testors products with respect to dry time, viscosity, and they most likely use the same solvent; which I suspect is Isobutyl Alcohol. Of course the shades are bit different, but you can either mix with lighter metal colors by Mr. Metal or just use it as-is. Mr Color offers Aluminum, Stainless, Brass, Chrome, Iron, dark iron, and gold. The Mr. Metal paints come in a 10 Mil Bottle and the MMs are 15. I was checking prices and the Mr. Metal works out to be slightly cheaper than the Metalizer, that is if you can find it! I haven't tried the Metalizer sealer on the Mr. Color but my guess is it will probably work fine.

Thanks for sharing your information on the replacements for Model Master Metalizers. Where are you finding Mr. Metal and Mr. Color?

i was talking with the guys in my club and they say they use Alclad (like Marty suggested). they brush it as well as shoot it thru the air gun. there is also an acrylic paint that a gentlemen suggested, but cant remember the name right now. this gentleman used to own a hobby shop, now sells out of his basement and he still as a few metalizer paints left.

I am thinking the Mr. Metal is about as close as you can get if not an exact match for the Testors Metalizers in terms of how you apply it. Again, the colors may not match the Testors Metalizer exactly. As for other metal paints I have one from Vallejo that is acrylic paint. Vallejo does make a full line of metal paints in acrylic, but you have to shake them up really really well.

The Vallejo is a very thick when its in the bottle. What I don't like about is the fact that is so thick you really have to shake up the pigments in the bottle before you dispense it or you will get variations in tones or shades when sprayed.
Also, one last word. Mr Color also offers some acrylic paints and metalizers so ask the vendor to make sure the metal color you choose is lacquer based.
