Gotta airbrush some acrylic - over Tamiya spray primer - and then mask it to spray some Tamiya color. It's the 1/24-scale Stuka I'm finally finishing after decades - Sky Blue underside, OD Green upper, and some trick masking for the fixed gear pods. How well does acrylic bond to Tamiya lacquer primer and hold up to masking?
I use the 3M blue tape & will weaken its adhesive via the usual apply-to-clothing-first method.
I'd rather do the light blue before the darker green...

I’ve had problems doing that the acrylic paint came off real easy. I ended up stripping it using the blue tape lol.

I do this process all the time on my aircraft kits... I pretty much only use Tamiya Lacquer primer. I use acrylics for color for the easy clean up. I've never had an issue with any peel off the primer as a result of masking.. I try to pull the mask after a few minutes after I spray so I don't have a hard dry edge at the tape. I always let it sit a good 24 hrs before shooting a different color.

I also mix up my acryls.... I use Tamiya, Vallejo, AK. Never had issues... Now just watch the next one is going to make a liar out of me and peel... lmao

Thanks, and nice work ! When I did the interior (2-tone burgundy) for my white Road Runner, I had no problems with acrylic over Tamiya primer, but I used the hard-line tape. This big ol' thing needs a softer edge and I'm probably over-thinking it. Aircraft are SO much more difficult than cars, especially at my humble level.

for my masking I use the yellow frog tape... pretty much the same as the tamiya tape... much better pricing... typically the German aircraft had hard edges in their schemes... the only time they has soft edges were when the did a field camo over the factory splinter scheme... USN WW2 aircraft... now those can be a painting challenge.... Can't post a pic... say forum has exceeded space limit....

No worries, I know what you mean. I noticed the harder edges when I was looking at in-period photos.
