Back in 83 I bought a brand new (1:1) Mazda Rx-7 and added some extra’s items on it. It was a cool car with the rotary engine and handled great. So I added a front air dam and rear spoiler and a few other little items but no performance parts except for tires. In 85 I sold the car to my mom and she drove it for 5 more years and then I bought it back from her. I had it for about 8 months until it was stolen from my driveway and totaled. So I’ve been collecting some Mazda kits and parts to build my old Rx-7. There are no kits of my car but I believe that I have enough parts to build my Rx-7 now. I have the Tamiya Savanna Rx-7 that is the correct body style (gen2) and curbside but it’s right hand drive, I also have a Monogram Rx-7 that is a gen 1 body style but it’s left hand drive and has the rotary engine. I picked up the Revell latest issue that is basically the same as the old Monogram kit but has better decals and a front spoiler. I also found a guy a couple years ago that was selling 3D printed rims like I had on mine. So there’s my history on my car.
I’ve started working on the Rx-7 with spraying the rims with the old Model Master Aluminum Plate. I’ve also cut out the engine compartment from the Monogram kit have been test fitting the parts from the 3 different kits to check the fitness and so far it looks like I’m going to use the Gen 2 body from the Tamiya kit and the interior, engine and chassis from the Monogram kit. I’ve had to extend the axles for the wheels to fit right with the Gen 2 body being a little bit wider plus the rims are different. I’ve also started working on the front air dam by using the front spoiler in the Revell kit as frame for the air dam. I still have some more work on it before paint. I’m going to need to find some driving lights for it now.
As always your comments are always welcome and appreciated.
