Had this old AMT kit laying around, and decided to revisit some good times... Back in 1970, I had this '57 Chevy that had originally been built to run in the MP classes at Lions Dag Strip. It was my street car, and late-night street racer for a few years. High-winding small block, 4-speed, 4.88s, and a lot of fun for a 20-year-old. I would do that all over again, but I'll have to settle for 1/25 scale unless I sell one of the current toys...

Wow this is going to be a awesome build! I have enjoyed building my old rides I find that it brings back memories of when I had the car. The good old days lol.

Thanks for the compliments - I'm not gonna go nuts on it, mostly due to the relative crudeness of the AMT kit; I've had the kit for decades and just decided to do something with it. Right now, waiting on paint from Scale Finishes, as the car was an early-'60s Ford metallic blue.
Al, I think this is the 3rd model that replicates a car I've owned; whether by focus, fortune, or OCD, I've had a bunch of cars that were just right. I've built a few that I wish I owned, of course, but I guess I get nostalgic at times. Mocked up the stance, which is lower than the real car and I should tweak that.

Well, things went sideways yesterday on the paint... I used Scale Finishes over Tamiya primer (both lacquer) that had cured for several days. Most of the car looks like wrinkle finish for some reason, basically the sides and part of the hood. Roof & trunk lid are fine. Guessing I may have applied too much paint without sufficient flash time in those areas ? My airbrush was being problematic, so I used my buddy's much nicer one, but probably hosed the car. Too soft to sand yet, to see if I can save it. Very disappointed in myself. Was kinda hoping to have it done before my hip replacement surgery this coming Monday, 'cause I'll be junk for 2 weeks or so...

I’m praying for a successful surgery and quick recovery. I saw in one of Scale Finish’s news letters that they are now saying that the Tamiya primer does not work anymore with the Scale Finish’s paint.

Something was wrong, for sure. So now I gotta buy primer from Scale Finishes ? Debating a purple bath, Easy-Off, or just getting another '57 body & hood.
Thanks for the prayers; I'm not worried about the surgery, but getting to that point has been a bunch of stress & hoops. Recovery restrictions sound frustrating, but I'll be glad to lose the feeling that there's a knife in my hip. Being something of a control freak with a healthy streak of OCD makes this whole thing irritating, but I'll get through it.

why do you think mine go back in the box at the paint point. something ALWAYS happens. last one i painted (59 El Camino for a year born build for the model club) used regular primer but the paint can said "ACRYLIC LACQUER", never heard of it. people told me to test it on scrap plastic, i did, no problem, painted the hood, no problem, tailgate, again, no problem. painted the body, cracked all to shit!!
hope the surgery went well, young man.
