The other day, while marveling at how much a JoHan '70 Road Runner kit can sell for, I stumbled across a partially-built '69 RR missing a few parts. Even though I already have 4 of them, and some AMT '68 RR & '69 GTX kits, I placed relatively cheap bid. And won. On this one, I'm not worried about building it, as I'd be basically "saving it". Right ? Thinking about doing it promo-style, probably orange, mainly because everyone knows they didn't make '69 RR promos back in the day. But it's a struggle to avoid at least some detailing. AAAaarrrgggghhhhh OCD....
What do you guys think ?

Hey I know what you mean. I have two unbuilt and I can’t see myself building them. But if you got one that needs help. Hey go for it. Orange was available in 69.

I agree orange looks good on the 69. With the 70 JoHan rr getting high bids what would the 70 JoHan GTX go for?

I agree orange looks good on the 69. With the 70 JoHan rr getting high bids what would the 70 JoHan GTX go for? Marty would / could be the one to go to for pricing. nice "stumble" find, i might of even bought that one. i have 4 or 5 bodies. i have tons of parts if you are looking for something. minus body parts obviously. chassis, interior stuff. as far as your "promo" question. i saw a gentleman build a 70 hemi cuda like a promo. it turned out really cool. i don't think i can build one like that. but it was all one color, with the hockey decal in the back. they never made (?) a 69 Road Runner promo. just the GTX as far as i know. i think it would be cool. i have pictures somewhere of that 70 cuda, when i find them i will share.

Yup, no '69 RRs - only the GTX. Odd, as the RR out-sold the GTX by a ton, but I guess they wanted to promote the top of the line. Agree, it's a struggle to think of 1 color for everything, and zero detailing; don't know if I can actually do that. But maybe - because the undercarriage is so basic - half-assing it is the answer, haha. Or, assemble it as weakly as possible, so I can re-do it at a later date if the urge strikes. I've heard Elmer's works for that kinda thing but don't know.

Al, I forgot to add: haven't received it yet, but from the photos it seems to be missing a headlight lens; maybe a few other parts. I might have extra lenses, and I know I have other stuff. Might need a tail lamp bezel. Oddly, it has '69 Charger-pattern seats, but I have other seats that I got from you a while back (thanks again). I have plenty of the NASCAR-style stuff; if anyone has a use for those parts, I'll donate 'em.

Thanks, Al - rummaged through my stuff, found a few things, and ordered the rest off Feebay. For some reason the door handles on this kit were messed with; a weird combination of sanding and glue, so I sanded them off. Seems the model is pushing me into at least exterior detailing...
These JoHans are a funny mix of nice details and weak - even non-existant - details; obviously a sideline to their Promo business.
