Almost stock but a few mods, basically another "how I'd drive it" deal... The Sportone textured side trim inserts AMT gave it means - to me - a solid color, and I'm going with the factory light green. Otherwise, I'd have 2-toned it - always liked that on '50s cars.
Interior will be 2-tone green and stock. Decided it needed the dual-quad BB - the kit is a weird hybrid of BB & A engines - so I had to fab the oval air cleaners. Agonized over a wheel & tire combo, and I think I've decided on Mopar Rallyes. Undecided on manifolds or headers, but adding a little GTX flavor feels about right...

There's probably the better part of the day in masking interior panels for the 2-tone, as I'm thinking airbrushing the 2nd color. I'll try frisket film, though some of the details bridge the 2-tone separation and threaten an overspray problem. Then there's the chrome: lots of stuff that in real life was anodized aluminum. Pondering whether to satin-clear and then detail, or the purple tank and make more work for myself, haha... I think I'll learn a lot on this one.

Interior masked for 2nd color with a combination of frisket film and Tamiya & 3M tapes.

Nice to see a 58 Belvedere that’s not going to be red. Should be a beauty.

Thanks - to my eye, the blues & greens of that era have more appeal. This kit is pretty decent, kind of a hybrid of AMT & Revell style. They chrome a lot of stuff that was clean-anodized aluminum on the real cars, but Tamiya sem-gloss clear fixes that. The thing that's ridiculous is the bumpers: There's a mold line right through the middle of the big side guards, and the sprue is at the top surface. Probably have to sand the guards and use chrome foil or a replater to fix that. But I have no idea who replates plastic or how long that would take.

Air cleaners look like they came off of a 58 392 300. Lots of nifty 2 tones in the 50's. Desoto lead the pack. Mopar Rallyes aren't too high on my favorites list, but will probably look good on that build.

Couldn't find any 300 air cleaners, so I made them using brass & styrene. Looked at every wheel/tire package I could think of; I was hoping for some Indy-style Halibrands. 5-spoke mags, Cragars, etc just didn't do it for me, nor did steelies or Magnums. Never cared much for slot wheels. I was surprised how good the Rallyes looked. But there's still time for more confusion, haha... I'm thinking that some 68-70 GTX/RR exhaust tips would be a nice detail.

I'm at the point where I need to decide how I should attach the firewall. Kit instructions say to glue it to chassis, but it doesn't register in a way that makes me confident of its fit to the body later. Firewall fits aprons & cowl very nicely, and I'm thinking that's the better area to attach it to. While most of the kit fits together well, a few areas were fussy enough - had to file the shock crossmember to fit the tailpipes, for example - that I'm questioning some things. Might also be easier to fit chassis into body if firewall is already in the body... Whaddya think ?

Sounds like you should do that with the firewall in the chassis...

I realized I should just do a mock-up: so I placed the firewall in the body and squeezed the chassis in (tight fit @ rockers & aprons) and it went together just fine. The rear chassis tabs don't want to clear the body to fit in their slots, but that may not be a bad thing depending on the box-stock ride height; shouldn't be hard to correct if need be. Since the interior glues to the floor, the interior/body fit dictates rear ride height. Funny thing: replacing the kit's generator with an alternator uses up what little clearance there is to the rt apron. Modified the ft spindles to drop the nose a bit.

Here's some progress - fixed the bumper mold seams & I'll see if a flat clear or a pearl clear replicates the Sportone anodized appearance better. For the grille & tail lamp anodized areas, flat clear over the kit's chrome duplicates the proper appearance better, and makes the blackout work easier.
You can kinda see how the Rallyes work with the '58 body & trim design.

Came out like this. Mostly content with it. Fun kit. Still debating whether to put '68-'70 RR/GTX tailpipe tips on it...
