Built an AMT car haulaway (transport) trailer to plop 5 cars onto. Now I need an AMT tractor to hook up to it, trying to figure out what would have been used in the late '60s. Not sure if single or dual rear axles, thinking something fairly short (COE) like for a fairly local route. Advice & suggestions appreciated.
Some of them are pretty spendy, so I'd hate to get something that wouldn't work or look right.

Well, that's pretty much perfect. L700, apparently made by IMC and Lindberg at some time. Interesting that truck kits are more expensive than cars, guess that's about volume...

Found one at Hobbylinc, less money than Feebay, it should be herein about 10 days. Won't need the tanker trailer; if someone here needs one, let me know. Thanks dge467, somehow I forgot about those.

That works too. I don't have pics of mine - it's not here - but I went with a semi-gloss medium blue, as I remember seeing some that color. I left the wheels chrome but dulled them a bit - painted like yours is more accurate. Didn't use any kit decals. Still have to do a unit #, made my own license plate. May paint the wheels.

Did you by any chance drill out the 1714 holes in the ramps?

Hahahaha - I tried to talk my buddy into that... But no, I'm a hack. Did think about how to age the thing down, though... And didn't solve that problem either.

Well, here's where I'm at with mine. Been a couple busy weeks and not all fun & games, but in between I've been able to mutilate some styrene... Attachment Deleted

And the L700 is coming along. Quite fiddly, axle/spring fit is weird, some tweaking required, but an interesting kit.
By the way, the other models in the trailer photos aren't mine, those are Jim's (glueandsprue) work - you can tell the difference, it's a lot nicer than my stuff... Attachment Deleted

One thing to note is that on the L700 they set the rear springs up for a empty truck with the back raised up. With a loaded trailer it would be lower. Mine is raised up build straight out of the box.

Yup, you're right - might have to adjust that later. The thing I don't get is the front axle ends stick out of the outside of the front wheels by about 1/4". I gotta figure that out with some mocking up with the lower cab, as it seems no way that's right. A fair amount of the thing needs mocking up to figure out where stuff goes; no clue on many things that would be disastrous if located incorrectly. I'm gonna need more of those little clamps !

Update, for those of you who are holding your breath : Whittling away at it - in the chassis shot, you can see how much extra front axle/spindle there is. Wheels & tires are in the right spot when mocked up with the fender/floor section. I need to touch up the split rims.
