Earlier this week I took a chance and painted the hardtop roof and it didn't come out too badly. I painted the body this afternoon and I am not too happy as the body door lines and vent lines showed through the paint. Maybe another coat or two after this coat has had a chance to dry. I painted the underside of the hood and when this has had chance to dry, I'll paint the top of the hood. More Corvette to come...

i have had the same problem with British green before also. it seems to shy away from the peaks on the body. they i would always get the paint too thick on a car. i like the color though. i do have another can, i will find something to use it on. as far as the alternator goes, thats a chevy for ya!! just hang that alternator out there using magic to hold it up. nice fix on that. the bracket is taking shape.

Al, I'm stripping the paint as we speak! Now I need to go out and find a dark green metallic like British Racing Green. I might have to get another can of Dupli-Color Forest Green Pearl which happens to be my favorite color. My luck everything will be Rusto-leum and they don't have my color. Even Mopars and Fords have that magical alternator hanging in the air! Power steering pump as well! Very few kits have that bracket.

Mike you could have run a thin black wash down those grooves and it would have worked fine... Suggest doing the grooves in black before you spray again... problem won't come up then as they will stay dark...

Thanks for the tip Joe! Once the Corvette is out of the bath, I will re-prime and re-paint it. While the '68 Vette is taking a bath in Easy-Off, I decided on assembling the chassis. I replaced the kit tires with a set of white letter tires from AMT. The engine is wired with a triangular air cleaner over the single 4-barrel carburator. I replaced the kit front springs with a set I had found in my parts box and I paint them blue. I glue the front wheels on so the model wouldn't roll off the table. More Corvette to come...

What I noticed - and I had one do the same thing decades ago - was the paint is in the panel gaps, but pulled away at the panel edges. I think it may be a primer issue, or an enamel issue, or some kind of surface tension issue; luckily I haven't had a repeat of that. I've been mostly using MCW or SF lacquer over Tamiya primers nowadays, but I do have some orange enamel I want to spray something with, so we'll see...

I decided to go out yesterday and I discovered that Pep Boys don't sell parts anymore. About 100 yards away is an Advance Auto Parts store and I found a can of Dupli-Color Forest Green Pearl, my favorite color! A dark green paint that has sprayed without any issues. This will be my paint for this '68 Corvette.

After sitting for a couple of days in Easy-Off Oven Cleaner, I washed the Corvette body, hood and roof and the old paint just came off with some Dawn Dish Detergent and a scrub brush. Now to pick and sand to remove any unwanted paint and then a new coat of primer. More Corvette to come...

I think it will! I have not had an issues with it in the past year or so. I started off this morning with several pieces of sanding film and I removed any remaining primer and paint. I traced all the door groves and vents with a pick and the backside of my No. 11 X-acto blade. I applied more Bondo to the hood edge that I had added previously. More sanding to follow and then primer and paint. More Corvette to come...
