Bottom Dump trailer FINISHED with Outside Pictures

My Super Bee Trucking is calling for a new bottom dump trailer for the fleet. There’s no kits available for one of these so I’m going to scratch build one. I’ve been doing my research on line and picked up a AMT tanker for my rear suspension and wheels. The rest of the trailer will be from evergreen plastic. For this one I decided to make some scale drawings instead of just cutting pieces as I go alone. There’s a lot of angles on this trailer. I don’t think anything is square lol. I’ve built the rear suspension from the tanker to get started and to get my elevation correct for the dump section. Even with all the evergreen plastic I bought when Hobby Lobby had it on sale I’m still going to have to pick up some more. Here’s my progress pictures and as always your comments are always welcome and appreciated.

I finished my drawings to where I was able to start building the sides and the front and back sections of the dump part. I ended up with 3 revisions to the front and back sections luckily it was paper and not plastic lol. Now I’m going to start on all the bracing and gusset plates. There’s not very many square angles on this.

I worked on the fifth wheel plate to have it able to rotate side to side. This keeps the king pin from braking off when the trailer is going over the uneven load that is dumped in front of the trailer wheels. This was something that I found out about when I was researching these types of trailers.

Today I started working on the bracing at the front end of the trailer and the rear end.

I did more work on the rear end of the trailer and added fenders to the front of the trailer. Next will be the bottom dump assembly.

I have been working on the bottom gates that open and close and I was able to get them both gates to work at the same time. So if one opens the other gate opens to. I’m going to add air pneumatic cylinders that are used to operate the gates. I’m thinking I’m getting closer to being ready for some paint. Here’s my progress pictures.
